ChiRP!
Thanks to our incredibly generous supporters, the Cary Library Foundation is delighted to have reached our $750,000 fundraising goal for ChiRP! — the Children’s Room and Lower Level Renovation. The Foundation’s substantial contribution to this major library renovation exemplifies the public/private partnership which has created and sustained the Library since its founding.
Our community demonstrated wide-spread support for this project, with hundreds of generous donations by both current and former residents of all ages, local businesses, and non-profit organizations. Single donations reflect a wide range, representing our community’s exceptionally strong commitment to Cary Library.
The newly redesigned space opened to the public in March 2026. Learn more about the reopening in this article from the Lexington Observer.
This project:
Created more flexible spaces in the Children’s Room to accommodate the increased demand for children's programs and provide greater accessibility and safety.
Transformed the Large Meeting Room to enable innovative cooking, science, and other creative programming designed for all ages through the addition of a demonstration kitchen, new technologies, and maker space storage.
Represented a public/private partnership with the Town of Lexington to fund the renovation of the library’s lower level.
